I ran into a similar issue and it was because I had an outdated java version

I encountered the same problem. It turned out that I wrote the /etc/hosts file wrongly. In /etc/hosts file you should write the ip first and then comes the hostname. I wrote the other way around, when I wrote in the right way it fixed the issue.

If this is not your fix then you can find additional info in the red5.log file. It is in the log directory under the red5 home dir.
